Congratulations to Dr. Louis Kolling, Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Florida and former postdoctoral fellow at the University of Iowa, on receiving a K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from the NIH National Institute on Aging for his project, "From Health to Dysfunction: A Multi-omics Approach to Understanding the Spread of Tau Pathology in Alzheimer's Disease."

This award represents the culmination of years of dedication and perseverance. Over the past four years, Dr. Kolling made significant career decisions with the goal of competing for this prestigious grant, including relocating across the country twice in pursuit of the training, mentorship, and research experiences necessary to strengthen his application.

After 22 months and two submission attempts, his persistence has been rewarded with official notice of award. As he prepares to enter the tenure-track faculty job market during the 2026-2027 academic cycle, he does so with the full support of his principal investigator and mentors, both past and present.

Once he establishes his independent research program, Dr. Kolling looks forward to advancing discoveries and contributing to the Alzheimer's disease research community.
